The Medical Coder III is a senior-level position responsible for ensuring precise coding of diagnoses and procedures in compliance with established coding guidelines and regulations. This role is integral to maintaining financial accuracy and regulatory compliance within our institution. Responsibilities include assigning accurate diagnostic (ICD-10-CM) and procedural (CPT) codes to medical records, leading and conducting internal audits of medical records and coding work, analyzing clinical documentation and collaborating with physicians and clinical staff, staying current with coding guidelines and regulatory changes, collaborating to resolve coding-related questions, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and HIPAA standards, generating advanced coding reports, mentoring and training junior coders, and demonstrating advanced proficiency in coding software and electronic health record systems. Requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, 5+ years of coding experience with strong background in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding including complex scenarios, Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC, and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA.
