Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for an experienced, Structural Designer and Structural Design Engineer , for a 6-9 month contract assignment supporting the Mobile Launcher II project from Houston, TX. These  onsite roles offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime. Our client is targeting $75.00 - $85.00/hour for these roles. 

 

U.S. citizenship is required.

Local candidates only - per diem is not offered.

 

Project Overview:
Located at Kennedy Space Center, the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for NASA to provide an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. 

 

Responsibilities:

• Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel calculations and specifications.
• Originate, check, and modify complex structural analysis models using GT STRUDL.
• Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines.
• Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
• Provides technical direction to designers and less experienced engineers as directed.
• Assists in constructability reviews.

Education / Experience (Designer):

• Associate or bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering.
• 8-10 years of experience in structural steel design of heavy industrial type facilities.
  • In lieu of a degree, 12-15 years of relevant work experience
• Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD, Tekla, or similar design software.
• Six Sigma Yellow Belt or higher or working knowledge of other process improvement programs.
• Familiar with the provisions of ASTM, AISC, OSHA, and IBC codes.

Education / Experience (Engineer):

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• 8-10 years of experience performing structural steel building/tower analysis.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
• Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation, Tekla, and NavisWorks.
• Proficient in the use of structural analysis software GTSTRUDL or Staad.Pro
• Proficient with the use of Mathcad or similar software.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
• Thorough knowledge of the provisions of AISC Steel Manual & ASCE 7.
• Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
• Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
• Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
• Excellent listening, oral, and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
