The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Aging and Serious Illness (CASI), a research center within the Mongan Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital, seeks a Senior Research Data Analyst to add to our dynamic and growing team. The mission of the Center for Aging and Serious Illness is to better understand the needs of those living with serious illness and their caregivers, develop new interventions, improve current treatments, and explore new questions at the intersection of aging and serious illness. The research team is responsible for a growing number of clinical studies, observational studies, investigator-initiated primary care, hospital-based and community-based implementation studies.

A successful Senior Research Data Analyst will have experience conducting observational data analyses, working with raw data, and using large longitudinal datasets. They will be skilled in data organization, manipulation, and analysis, multiple regression modeling and diagnostics.

The ideal candidate has strong analytic and methodological skills, excellent communication skills, experience working with health care data and medical claims data, and the ability to mentor and lead other members of the team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the Center for Aging & Serious Illness Director and research faculty, the Senior Research Data Analyst will work collaboratively with our team to perform a variety of activities including assisting with database development, software programming, data management, statistical analysis, and reporting results for a variety of internal and external projects and constituents. This detail-oriented, motivated, and independent individual will work with large national survey, electronic health record (EPIC), and health insurance claims, and administrative datasets.

The Senior Research Data Analyst will proficiently use SAS software and/or STATA, SPSS, Python, or R and other technical tools to clean data, build datasets, and run statistical analyses for multiple projects. They will be responsible for translating evaluation questions into analytic plans, constructing analytic datasets by extracting raw data, including medical claims data, from electronic data warehouses and other sources as necessary, producing appropriate data summaries, and conducting valid data comparisons and statistical tests.

In collaboration with the Director for the Center for Aging & Serious Illness and Administrative Director for the Division of Palliative Care & Geriatric Medicine, the Senior Research Data Analyst provides leadership through motivating, coaching, training, and mentorship of a Data Analyst.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  6. Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Proficiency with software packages, including Microsoft Office suite.

  8. Strong programming skills in SAS and willingness to learn other programming languages as necessary.
  9. Advanced knowledge of statistical testing and multivariate modeling required (e.g., logistic and linear regression, longitudinal models) used in Biostatistics/Epidemiology.
  10. Experience transforming and analyzing administrative healthcare data (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid, other claims-based or electronic medical records databases (EPIC)) is preferred.
  11. Experience with compiling longitudinal datasets for analysis is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

1.0 FTE data analyst.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Assists in the development, reporting, and oversight of program budgets. Understands and positively impacts the value of efficient data analytics for institutional, grant, or research funded projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Fast paced and dynamic healthcare research institute. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday daytime hours but may vary based upon individual program or event demands – up to and including periodic evenings and weekend days. MGH Main Campus, but periodic travel to other Mass General Brigham Healthcare system and non-MGB program locations will be necessary. Hybrid: Primarily on-site, with telecommuting options available for occasional remote work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

5 or more years of healthcare, bioinformatics, and/or advanced statistical analysis.

Master’s degree required.
