Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a full-time Senior Bioinformatics and Data Scientist to join our team at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging to work on projects in academia with a close-knit team, collaborate with experts in the field of aging, and participate in a nationwide effort to further the field. The Buck Institute for Research on Aging’s Bioinformatics Core is a collaborative group of data analysis scientists who pool their knowledge and skills to provide cutting-edge services for internal and external researchers. Members cross-train to improve their data analysis skills and career development under Dr. David Furman's mentorship. The Program Projects Grant (PPG) “ Cellular senescence and cell fate/interactions as drivers of Alzheimer's and age-related dementias ” focuses on how age-related changes in both neurons and non-neuronal brain cells can drive these pathologies, with the promise of developing effective interventions. The NIH-directed SenNet Tissue Mapping Center located at the Buck Institute for “Senescent cell mapping, identification, and validation for human somatic and reproductive tissues” is part of a cross-consortium program to study senescent cells that play positive and negative roles in biological processes. As part of this Center, our Data Analysis Core is the nucleating facility between the Biospecimen Core, Administrative Core, and Bioanalysis Core of the U54 NIH longitudinal study of cellular senescence. The “ Biomarkers of Aging in Human Cohorts Project ” is a collaboration between multiple Buck Institute Principal Investigators to investigate biomarkers of aging and vaccine response in human cohorts. The Furman Lab member will help analyze metabolomics and proteomics data to consolidate vaccine response biomarkers.
