Job Overview:

The Senior Safety and Security Manager will be the technical expert partnering with operational leadership to deliver impactful safety, health, and security solutions. This role oversees safety and security initiatives for over 1,800 employees at the Lewiston, NC food manufacturing complex and other Eastern NC facilities, fostering a world-class safety culture through continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Security Leadership:
  • Lead all safety and security efforts for the Lewiston manufacturing complex and Eastern NC field operations.
  • Manage safety for live production, garage/transportation operations, and non-manufacturing facilities in collaboration with the regional safety director.
  • Direct daily activities and personnel matters of the facility and security contract personnel.
  • Oversee the facility security team in managing security processes, developing site security practices and policies, and tracking key performance indicators.
  • Operational Support:
  • Provide technical expertise for cross-functional teams to ensure safe operational processes and support capital/engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with experts in vehicle safety, corporate security, environmental, PSM, and other areas to align facility activities and objectives.
  • Interpret OSHA, NFPA, DHS, DOT, and other relevant regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Safety Culture and Engagement:
  • Promote safety awareness and drive employee engagement to maintain a world-class safety culture.
  • Proactively resolve safety issues and concerns.
  • Business Planning and Reporting:
  • Lead the development of site safety business plans by analyzing data and tracking/reporting facility and corporate KPIs/metrics.
  • Validate plans through internal safety and security audits, tracking findings through closure.
  • Provide training support and ensure all required safety training is completed on time.
  • Incident Management:
  • Ensure effective investigations of safety and security incidents, determining root causes and developing corrective actions.
  • Utilize incident data to develop action plans addressing hazards and emerging trends.
  • Serve as a member of the incident command team and respond to emergency activities.
  • Compliance and Audits:
  • Liaise with third-party assessments, audits, and inspections (e.g., insurance carriers, local fire departments, risk engineering firms, OSHA, DHS).
  • Build relationships with occupational health/medical teams to improve worker safety, wellness, and case management.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, health, and security measures.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety Health, Occupational Health Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Environment, Safety Health, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years in manufacturing safety management with multi-site responsibility.
  • Proven track record in leading world-class safety programs.
  • Certifications:
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) certification preferred.
  • Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate employees effectively.
  • Proficiency in Quality Systems; experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques.
  • Valid driver’s license and US passport.
  • Bilingual (English plus Spanish and/or French) preferred.
