Leidos’ Defense Systems’ Uncrewed Systems Integration and Test Team is seeking an RF Communications Signal Processing Engineer to join our team to work in our Huntsville, AL office. This is an exciting opportunity to help DoD Uncrewed Systems pioneer new data communications technology ensuring mission success.

As an RF Communications Signal Processing Engineer, you will immerse yourself in cutting-edge technology, driving the development of advanced signal processing algorithms and performing rigorous testing and analysis of state-of-the-art protected waveforms, including anti-jam (AJ) and low probability of detection (LPD) systems. Your work will directly support our Department of Defense (DoD) customers, delivering detailed performance and vulnerability assessments of current and emerging data link waveforms. 

In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to act as a technical subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with government entities to aid in product enhancement and acquisition decisions. Your contributions will ensure that our DoD customers can seamlessly adopt and maximize advanced communications capabilities in a cost-effective manner, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of secure and resilient communications for the warfighter in real-world field environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support team members in the analysis of pertinent communications technologies targeted for the DoD uncrewed systems community.
  • Support team members in the experimentation, both lab and outdoor environments, with new communications technologies.
  • Support team members in the analysis of data acquired in the testing activities.
  • Support team members in the reporting and presentation of test data, at several different DoD levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and 10-13 years of relevant experience in RF signal processing, communications, or Electronic Warfare (EW) environments.
  • Strong foundation in RF theory, including RF testing, propagation, schematics, and link budgets, especially in relation on over-the-air signal detection.
  • Proficiency in signal modeling, filter and noise modeling, Fourier transforms, and general signal processing techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of communications waveform modulation theory, including techniques such as Phase-Shift Keying (PSK) and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM).
  • Knowledgeable in Forward Error Correction (FEC) methods, including Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC), turbo codes, and Reed-Solomon (RS) coding.
  • Expertise in processing and interpreting complex data sets, with proficiency in object-oriented MATLAB programming or similar analytical tools.
  • Experience analyzing technical papers (e.g., IEEE journals) and implementing findings through algorithm development.
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum/signal analyzers, function generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to produce professional, detailed reports and presentations to communicate analysis results effectively to customers.
  • Experienced in radio testing in laboratory and outdoor (e.g., flight testing) environments.
  • Must be a US Citizen and process and be able to maintain an active Secret clearance and be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • Must be a resident of Huntsville, Al or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with spread spectrum techniques (DSSS, FHSS, MCSS, and hybrid methods).
  • Familiarity with detection methods, including energy and feature detection.
  • Competence in cyclic autocorrelation and cepstral analysis.
  • Experienced in radio testing in both laboratory and outdoor (e.g., field, flight testing) environments.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00
