Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

A Procurement Specialist is responsible for assisting in the procurement of packaging related to a large fresh-cut production facility. This role involves developing relationships with vendors, managing the ordering process and product flow, and maintaining inventory levels to meet the company's needs. This full-time role is based on-site in Jessup, MD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily Ordering:
    • Work toward learning all items, to include usage and movement of product for daily ordering
    • Place all Purchase Orders (PO’s) with respective vendors to ensure proper inventory for the facilities needs
    • Monitor open PO’s with vendors to ensure on-time and accurate deliveries
    • Understand and communicate specifications and needs with internal/external vendors
    • Validate all items are purchased and delivered at the correct cost/amount
    • Use current ordering systems or develop own system to plan out purchasing
    • Work with vendors in a positive and professional manner to resolve issues and build rapport, while making sure all needs are met
  • Follow the product flow from start to finish:
    • Accurately place all PO’s
    • Ensure all deliveries arrive when expected
    • Ensure all deliveries are delivered in full and follow up on any discrepancies
    • Work with vendors to resolve any issues (pricing, amount, deliveries, etc)
  • Understand priority of certain items and when to escalate issues as they occur
  • Source and find information/specs required from current and potential new vendors
  • Responsible for all PO’s and product ordered
  • Address and own any quality issues noticed upon receipt or during production
  • Proactively communicate issues/concerns across various facets of the business
  • Help to oversee daily transfers between on campus facilities
  • Work with the team to ensure any current “hot items” are handled accordingly
  • Think creatively when issues arise, whether it be for current problems or possible future state improvements
  • Provide input and ideas on how to make the general department better in conjunction with the team
  • Other duties to be assigned as we grow

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations, or a related field is preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably in the seafood industry
  • General knowledge of business operations in the seafood industry is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, specifically Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with order and data management systems is a plus
