Job Description

About Thomvest Ventures

Thomvest Ventures is a venture capital firm with over $750 million under management. We focus on opportunities in the fields of financial technology, cybersecurity, and enterprise infrastructure. The capital we invest is our own, enabling us to be more creative and flexible with the entrepreneurs we work with as well as to help them focus on building industry-leading companies.

We are adding a Portfolio Finance Associate to support our team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your financial expertise to support our investing activities, with a primary focus on analyzing the financial performance and valuation of our portfolio companies. The role will also support our broader team as we evaluate potential new investments.  The role will be based out of our San Francisco office.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong accounting background who also has experience in financial analysis and valuation - ideal for candidates coming from investment banking, Big Four accounting (Transaction Services, Valuations, Audit), corporate finance, or private equity/venture capital.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Portfolio Monitoring

  • Collaborate with portfolio company finance teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Analyze portfolio company financial reports to track performance, identify risks, and assess financial trends.
  • Conduct financial due diligence as part of follow-on financings for portfolio companies, including reviewing financial statements, accounting policies, and key risks.

Financial & Valuation Analysis

  • Perform valuation analysis (primarily comparable company and precedent transaction-based) for portfolio companies and potential investments.
  • Analyze company financial statements, revenue models, and capital structures to support investment decisions.
  • Support quarterly and annual valuation updates for portfolio companies in accordance with reporting standards.
  • Work with the investment team to assess the financial health of current and potential new investments.

Investor & Internal Reporting

  • Prepare financial summaries and valuation insights for internal investment meetings and Limited Partner updates.
  • Assist in building reports and presentations on fund performance, financial trends, and portfolio metrics.
  • Work closely with the accounting team to ensure fund-level reporting and compliance with valuation best practices.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, or valuation—preferably in investment banking, Big Four accounting (Transaction Services, Valuation, or Audit), corporate finance, private equity, or venture capital.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and financial statement analysis.
  • Experience conducting valuation analyses (comps and precedent transactions) and financial due diligence.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; familiarity with financial databases (PitchBook and Capital IQ) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members working out of our offices in San Francisco and Toronto.
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA (or progress toward one of these) is a plus but not required.

Why Join Us?

  • Gain direct exposure to venture capital investing and the startup ecosystem.
  • Work closely with senior investment professionals and participate in high-impact financial decision-making.
  • Competitive compensation with performance-based incentives.
