Job Description: Low Voltage Technician

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Low Voltage Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial and residential doors, hardware, and access control systems. This role requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills to ensure quality installations and repairs that meet safety and building standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair various commercial doors, docks, and related hardware using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Diagnose and conduct routine repairs for door-related issues such as broken springs, hinges, locks, and electrical components.
  • Install and configure door hardware, including locks, handles, closers, low-voltage systems, and access control systems.
  • Ensure all installed doors comply with safety and building code regulations and standards.
  • Perform emergency work orders for commercial clients.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, explaining repair processes, and offering solutions to door-related problems.
  • Create and maintain master key systems and cut keys by code.
  • Perform commercial lock re-keying and pinning of locks.
  • Maintain accurate records of service visits, repairs, and installations, and provide reports as required.
  • Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and written instructions for installations and repairs.
  • Diagnose, identify, and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Perform quality checks on installations and repairs to ensure compliance with company standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience in the commercial door service industry.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations involving fractions and precise measurements.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mechanical and technical skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Physically capable of lifting items weighing 50 lbs. or more and performing tasks that involve bending, climbing ladders (up to 20 feet), and operating power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Experience with safe and card access systems is a plus.
  • Welding certification is a plus.
  • AAADM certification is a plus.
  • Proficient in computer use and capable of writing simple correspondence.

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and service equipment.
  • Ability to install automatic sliding and swing doors.
  • Ability to install, repair, and maintain doors (metal, wood, and glass), door frames, and door hardware.
  • Ability to modify hardware for locks.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve door-related technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to relay information and be persuasive with customers in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Full frame/door replacement experience.
  • Experience in installing and maintaining access control hardware.
  • Experience in working with various door types, brands, and hardware.
