Job Description

Who We Are at Outlier:

Outlier is a sports betting research platform for aspiring, intermediate, and advanced sports bettors who understand that data & statistics are the foundation of a strong sports betting strategy. It empowers bettors to make smarter betting decisions by pairing hyper-contextual and relevant sports data with available betting markets.

Unlike traditional sports data sites like ESPN and Basketball Reference, Outlier organizes and visualizes data for easy comprehension, efficient decision making, and immediate execution. Think Bloomberg Terminal for sports betting.

Outlier has tens of thousands of paying subscribers, and regularly ranks among the top-50 sports apps (top-10 grossing) in the Apple App store, with 9k+ reviews and a 4.9 star rating. We’ve had rapid growth since our launch in December of 2022, largely attributed to product-led growth. The foundation of our PLG is directly driven by a focus on an excellent UX and delighting users. We want a passionate product & visual designer to join the team and own these experiences.

The Role:

As the Lead Designer, you will own the end-to-end design process for our mobile and web applications while supporting the marketing team by creating visual assets for advertising and social media. Collaborating closely with our product manager, you will deliver innovative, user-centric solutions to customer pain points by leveraging both quantitative behavioral data and qualitative feedback. You will rapidly iterate on designs to refine user experiences, work directly with the development team to bring designs to life, and think systematically to ensure consistent behaviors and aesthetics across our suite of applications. Additionally, you will develop and maintain a comprehensive design system to guide the development team and ensure scalability. Your efforts will directly impact our product’s success by driving user satisfaction and engagement, while also playing a key role in shaping our brand identity through high-quality marketing visuals. This role is based in New Orleans, LA, alongside our development team and product manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design user interfaces and experiences for Outlier’s mobile and web applications, ensuring a seamless and intuitive customer journey.
  • Collaborate with our product manager and engineers to gather requirements, brainstorm solutions, and create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Utilize user feedback and behavioral data to drive design decisions and iterations.
  • Create and maintain a scalable design system to ensure visual and interaction consistency across products.
  • Conduct usability tests, A/B testing, and user research to validate design solutions.
  • Balance innovative design with real-world constraints like development timelines and technical feasibility.
  • Stay ahead of trends in sports betting and sports app design, ensuring Outlier remains a leader in the space.
  • Partner with the marketing team to design static assets for social and banner ad campaigns.
  • Develop visually appealing digital downloads (Cheat Sheets, Guides, eBooks).

Ideal Candidate:

  • 4+ years of experience in product design, with a portfolio showcasing user-centered B2C designs for mobile and web applications.
  • Expertise in design tools like Figma.
  • Strong understanding of design systems, accessibility standards, and responsive design principles.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to incorporate user behavior data into design decisions.
  • Familiarity with sports betting is a big plus.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous PTO
  • Employee stock options
  • Health, dental, vision, life insurance
  • Relocation package (if applicable)
  • Team travel (including international) and retreats
  • Health and wellness stipend
  • Tech stipend
  • Sports streaming packages
