Salary: $20-30/hr DOE

Texas Rio Grande Public Defender (TRGPD) seeks a part-time Investigator for its Goliad PD team located in Goliad, TX.TRGPD delivers indigent criminal defense to clients in rural areas of South Texas.

The primary duties of an investigator include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Locate and interview victims, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel; draft statements, maintain interview notes.
2. Locate, gather and analyze records, reports and documents, scan documents into case management system; serve subpoenas.
3. Interview clients to gather factual and mitigation information.
4. Visit crime scenes and other case related locations.
5. Prepare written reports.
6. Testify in court.
7. Notarize legal documents, if applicable.
8. Maintain accurate and complete client files and administrative records, including data entry into case management system.
9. Collaborate with team members regarding case strategy.
10. Prepare administrative reports required by TRGPD.
11. Comply with ethical and confidentiality requirements.
12. Any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor or members of the team.

Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Car, drivers license and automobile insurance
• Resourcefulness, creativity, initiative and drive, tact, and discretion
• Knowledge of computer applications, preferred
• Basic working knowledge of social work and public benefits programs, preferred
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred

TRGPD employees may not be actively engaged in outside employment related to law enforcement or prosecution due to ethical conflicts.

TRGPD employees who work 20 hours a week or more qualify for a generous benefits package including medical and dental insurance.
