Job Description

SUMMARY

Join our team of science teachers as we engage students in experimentation, research, discussion, critical thinking, and problem-solving as they investigate God's divine order and created universe with a sense of wonder. We aim to instill in our students a vibrant curiosity and a desire for ongoing discovery and investigation. We strive to give our students foundational knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical sciences so that they can intelligently discuss modern scientific ideas based on an understanding of the history and philosophy of science. We want students to be able to collect, organize, graph, and analyze numerical and observational data, as well as utilize scientific processes to investigate phenomena.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Teach: Develop classical interactive activities and labs for students so that they experience science firsthand. Apply the scientific method to learning, creating problem-based learning methods in which students apply science to the real world. Compose lesson plans with anticipatory sets, agendas, active participation, and closure. Design clear, interactive discussions/lectures with understandable explanations of key concepts. Teach five Physics and Honors Physics classes during 40-minute periods (Mondays) and 80-minute block periods (T/W and Th/F). One Chemistry class may be part of the schedule depending on scheduling needs.

Engage: Interact with students as individuals compassionately and professionally. Guide students into becoming mature, thoughtful, responsible, compassionate young adults that reflect the heart of Jesus. Help students connect current scientific issues and God's precepts and apply God's wisdom to scientific knowledge to develop Christian morals and ethics. Create high expectations for learning while also considering students' individual challenges. Integrate a sense of awe and wonder of God's handiwork and design within science. Assist student leaders in leading a small group of students twice a month.

Communicate: Create organized resources for students on Lions Den. Build rapport with parents by informing them about positive attitudes, behaviors, or achievements through phone calls or emails. Inform parents about concerns regarding their son or daughter within your classroom. Maintain accurate records of grades and contact parents when students drop below satisfactory achievement. Maintain an orderly classroom that fosters wonder and beauty.

Collaborate: Engage and share with other teachers and staff during monthly science meetings and in casual discussions. Inventory scientific supplies and equipment, order supplies, and set up and clean up labs. Integrate within the culture of our school: our mission, academics, extracurricular activities, and relationships. Reports to: Department Chair and Principals

Grow: Participate in weekly morning devotions. Hone your skills while engaging with peers during professional development sessions. Meet with a mentor teacher to revise and grow within our school's culture.

Serve: Participate in school activities such as student supervision, periodic outside the school day events, school trips, and other duties as assigned. Participate in the adventure of High School Retreat Week in the mountains of Payson or in Tucson. Develop student skills through tutoring and make-up work once a week in a WIN. Disciple student leaders in a small group gathering twice a month. Encourage the school community in all-school house events.
