Founded in 1889, Marlborough School is an independent girls' college-preparatory school for grades 7 through 12 located in Los Angeles, California. OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT As a full-time faculty member, the Health Education Teacher will teach health courses in our middle school, grades 7-9, and organize and facilitate health programming in the Upper School, grades 10-12. Our comprehensive curriculum supports students through the critical middle and high school years by fostering personal growth, self-awareness, and essential life skills. Grounded in the belief that social and emotional well-being contributes to academic success, the health program promotes holistic well-being. We aim to create a sense of belonging and community where students are prepared to navigate the challenges and transitions of adolescence with confidence and resilience by openly exploring and understanding health topics that are directly relevant to their lives. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES An educator who demonstrates a commitment to integrated health and wellness programming and who will:
- Teach four health classes.
- Collaborate with fellow health faculty to develop and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate, and research-informed lessons that integrate social and emotional learning.
- Partner with the Educational and Counseling Services Team and other Student Services colleagues to support students overall wellbeing and contribute to the coordination and facilitation of wellness programming and workshops for Middle and Upper School students.
- Use evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of adolescent development to foster a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver academically sophisticated and pedagogically engaging lessons for the appropriate developmental level and course designation.
- Recognize and support the connection between emotional health, physical wellbeing, and academic growth.
- Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
- Serve as a grade-level advisor to a group of approximately 12 students, building strong relationships and supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
- Participate actively in department, grade-level, and school activities, contributing to a collaborative and mission-aligned school culture.
- Adhere to Marlboroughs academic policies, guidelines, and expectations while modeling a commitment to student wellness and joy in learning.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS - A B.A. in Health or another discipline in the Health Sciences. A graduate degree in Health or another discipline in the Health Sciences is strongly preferred.
- 2 years of demonstrated success teaching Health at the secondary level.
- A capacity for developing innovative and imaginative programming around issues of health and serve as a model of openness, generosity, and acceptance.
- Possess confidence in their disciplinary and pedagogical expertise while remaining committed to professional growth and innovation in both these areas.
- Enjoy collaboration and have the ability to design and execute curriculum as part of a teaching team.
- Possess a high degree of interest in supporting the developmental needs of teenagers, with the ability to combine high expectations with a high level of support.
