Founded in 2014, Small Places is a 501(c)(3) based in Houston, TX that uses high impact urban farms in neighborhoods of low access to provide and foster the tools to cultivate health at every level for every person regardless of age, income, race, gender, or circumstance. The new Finca Tres Robles Through a collaboration with Harris County, Small Places is RELOCATING Finca Tres Robles to a new 1.5 acre 40 year home on an improved tract of land just 1 block from our original home! This new home will include a new neighborhood food store, teaching kitchen, and pavilion for our community and a new post-harvest station and offices for our team. Job Description The Farm Manager will be working alongside our current Lead Farm Manager to establish and manage primary farm production operations and support our inaugural class of Farm Apprentices through a USDA supported program. The Farm Manager will transition over time into taking over the Lead Farm Manager role in the summer. Support the day-to-day management of farm work including daily, weekly and seasonal planning, seeding, planting, weeding, irrigation, eventually taking full management. Planning weekly priorities through regular meetings with the Lead Farm Manager (and Executive Director) and various tasks as agreed upon. Direct, manage, and train farm staff, volunteers, and seasonal, including leading the Apprenticeship Program. Contribute to the development of improved operations through routines, processes, checklists, record keeping, farming techniques, and farm infrastructure projects. Manage the weekly maintenance and needs of the farm including email inquiries, making trips and purchases for farm needs, and planning and implementing farm improvements as needed. Support in weekend activities only as agreed upon, i.e. farm stand, volunteer groups, weekend farm maintenance. Working in a primarily working-class Latinx community, we strive to represent, include, and prioritize our immediate neighborhood.
