Dispatcher

We are looking for an influential leader to motivate and guide a team of drivers in our Jacksonville, FL location. You will be managing a critical piece of business. You will focus on exceeding the goals of on-time service, MPG results, and retention. You will create a team atmosphere where members feel valued. You will break through any barriers to build a solid partnership with the customer.

Performance Objectives:

Here are the top 3 performance objectives that determine success in this role:

Relationship Building:

  • Ability to provide feedback both positive and constructive to the drivers in a way that shows support and encouragement. Utilize the data we have in your discussions so they can see you have facts to base your discussion on. This would be utilizing our Driver Scorecard to ensure key factors are being met.
  • Continuously monitor the drivers Hours of Service, safety issues, detention, CDL/med cards all to ensure we are keeping safety at the forefront in all we do.
  • Driver Disciplinary Action-Verbal: Ensure all discussions are dealt with in a timely manner. These discussions should be dealt with in way that the driver feels we are actually helping them instead of having a “Gotcha” mentality. They need to come out of the discussion with a new priority and outlook in regard to the issue. There also needs to be follow up discussions around the issue. This conversation cannot be a one and done issue.

Strong Communication Skills (verbal and written):

  • Work effectively with safety and maintenance teams to address issues and concerns regarding drivers and their equipment. Must have the ability to work with team members in any department to help resolve an issue.
  • Ensure when communicating with others you are able to explain your concerns clearly and precise so others completely understand what is happening and what needs to happen. Eliminate any gray areas for others when communicating.

Ability to Multi-Task and Attention to Detail:

  • When working in a fast paced environment it is easy to miss a step in a process. Time Management is critical in this role. You need to have a process in place to eliminate any errors. Errors can cost the company and the driver revenue.
  • Dispatch freight in accordance with company policies, federal guidelines regarding hours of service to minimize empty miles and maximize revenue.

  • Communication : Ability to adjust your tone/style according to your audience, ability to explain complex issues both internally and externally.
  • Time Management : Have the ability to manage your time to efficiently prioritize tasks while adopting an attitude to take on new tasks and deadlines.
  • Self-Motivation : Having a positive attitude and the initiative to work without constant supervision.
  • Teamwork: working for our common goal, know when to be a leader and when to be a listener. Ability to be perceptive along with receptive to others needs and responsibilities.
  • Conflict Resolution : Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a rapport with others, know how to be persuasive with the ability to stay calm.
  • Computer Expertise : Must be proficient in Microsoft software; Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Business or a related field required
  • Two more years of transportation experience working with drivers preferred
  • High degree of computer experience
