    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Special Education Director

    JOB GOAL:

    The Special Education Director will provide support and oversight of the Districts Special Education Program.

    REPORTS TO: Superintendent SALARY RANGE: Assistant Principal Salary Schedule

    FLSA: Exempt, Certified

    QUALIFICATIONS: Administrative License and the following:

    • Masters degree in Teaching, Special Education, Administration or a related field or Licenced School Social Worker.

    • Evidence of Successful Teaching and Leadership in a K-12 Special Education environment

    • Current Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) Credential or ability to obtain credential

    • Current Valid Ohio Teaching License, or Long Term Substitute License

    • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.

    • Demonstrated Knowledge of Special Education Law and Special Education Funding

    • Demonstrated knowledge in the writing and revising of appropriate ETRs and IEPs

    • Demonstrated knowledge of experience/background in PBIS/RTI/MTSS Philosophy and Methodology.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Inclusion Model of Special Education Delivery of Services

    • Ability to identify appropriate steps and/or interventions to improve student achievement for ALL learners; especially those identified in Tier II and III prior to a transition to Special Education services

    • Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects with attention to detail and executive responsibilities independently

    • Demonstrated knowledge in the database and word processing systems

    • Evidence of successful work experience related to at-risk programs, special education, counseling, alternative programs, teacher training, parent engagement, instructional strategies, intervention support, and use of data to increase student achievement and success.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*:

    • Provides technical assistance and professional development to administrators, teachers and school-based leadership teams to facilitate successful implementation of the district special education program and preschool program.

    • Directs local Preschool Program and complete all compliance task associated with Step Up to Quality

    • Attends TBT, BLT, and DLT meetings to support teachers in problem solving, goal setting, implementation, monitoring and the evaluation process of special education program.

    • Works collaboratively with the School Psychologist in student assessment and transition to Special Education.

    • Prepares local, regional, state and federal reports as needed. Works with the Building Principals to coordinate the acquisition of support materials and equipment.

    • Works with the Superintendent and EMIS Coordinator, maintain and review data required for the educational, behavioral and social emotional needs of special education students.

    • Attends local, regional and state meetings and conferences as required.

    • Performs other duties as assigned
