Job Description

Based in Miami (FL—USA), We seek a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Basketball Competitions Manager. This role will involve leadership in planning, executing, and evaluating basketball competitions and programs across the Americas. Reporting to the Head of Competitions, the Manager will oversee team operations and manage high-profile events to ensure their success.

Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership and Planning:

- Collaborate closely with the Head of Competitions to define competition strategies and objectives in alignment with FIBA’s mission.

- Develop long-term plans for competitions and events, establishing clear goals to be timed within a structured four-year cycle, ensuring resource allocation and alignment with organizational objectives.

- Lead the development of event concepts, themes, and formats to enhance the profile and reach of basketball competitions in the Americas, emphasizing innovation and close coordination with other functional departments, Local Organizing Committees (LOCs), and government authorities to ensure cohesive and impactful outcomes.

- Oversee the preparation and dissemination of manuals, event guidelines, and communication strategies for National Federations and stakeholders, ensuring these are planned and updated within a 4-year cycle to align with long-term competition objectives.

2. Event Oversight and Operations:

- Oversee the comprehensive planning and seamless execution of basketball events, tournaments, and special programs. Ensure all elements align with organizational objectives while guiding and supervising assigned competition leads, contractors, and Technical Delegates involved in the competitions.

- Oversee logistical operations, including venue selection, vendor contracts, and production schedules, ensuring compliance with quality standards and timelines.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for local organizing committees, National Federations, and international stakeholders.

- Ensure all event setups, including branding, signage, and equipment, meet FIBA’s standards and promote a professional atmosphere, focusing on high-profile events to maximize impact and visibility.

3. Team and Resource Management:

- Manage and mentor a team of coordinators and assistants, providing leadership, support, and professional development opportunities.

- Assign and delegate tasks across the team, ensuring effective collaboration and execution of responsibilities.

- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Marketing, Broadcast, Referee, Communications, Youth Development) to streamline event operations and foster cross-departmental synergy.

4. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

- Act as a key liaison with national federations, sponsors, suppliers, and external partners to strengthen relationships and meet event objectives.

- Facilitate transparent communication channels with all stakeholders, ensuring timely updates on schedules, regulations, and operational changes.

- Represent FIBA at official meetings and events, promoting its mission and strengthening its regional presence.

5. Budget and Performance Management:

- Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and alignment with financial objectives.

- Monitor financial performance, providing regular updates and recommendations to the Head of Competitions.

- Supervise and collect comprehensive post-event evaluations to assess success metrics, gather feedback, and refine strategies for future events.

Education, Experience & Personal Characteristics:

- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, or a related field.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in event management, operations, or a similar role, preferably within the sports industry.

- The ability to manage complex cultural differences and navigate varied interpersonal dynamics to foster effective collaboration and teamwork.

- Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven ability to manage teams and complex projects.

- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish. Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and event management software.

- A proactive, self-driven attitude with a passion for basketball and its development across the Americas.

- Willingness to travel extensively (50%) and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
