Kidsave Community Organizer

Reports to: Shantay Armstrong, Manager, EMBRACE Project

Compensation: Part-time, 20 hrs/week, $25/hr

Work Location: Hybrid - Onsite at Kidsave’s Culver City office

Duration : 4-month contract, with potential for extension

Kidsave is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving outcomes for older youth in foster care. Our EMBRACE Project focuses on connecting marginalized youth with supportive adults through our Weekend Miracles program in Los Angeles.

We’re seeking a passionate Community Organizer to actively engage Black and Latino/a adults in Los Angeles neighborhoods as mentors, weekend hosts, and potential adoptive parents for youth ages 9–17.

What You’ll Do

  • Engage and recruit adults from historically underrepresented communities, with a focus on Black and Brown communities in Los Angeles
  • Build trusting relationships with community leaders, churches, sororities, and grassroots groups to expand Kidsave’s recruitment pipeline
  • Conduct direct outreach via events, tabling, and presentations focused on marginalized adults and allied communities
  • Collaborate with the EMBRACE Manager to develop and refine recruitment strategies
  • Represent Kidsave authentically and passionately in all interactions

Who We’re Looking For

  • Strong cultural responsiveness and trusted relationships within Black and Latino/a communities in Los Angeles
  • Experience in recruitment, community outreach, or grassroots organizing, especially in marginalized communities
  • Passion for empowering youth and families, particularly in foster care
  • Warm, approachable communication style and ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Experience with outreach events, public speaking, and follow-up communication
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Driver’s license and car required

Skills:

  • Open-minded, warm, and thoughtful demeanor
  • Ability to succinctly and successfully get the message across to the audience
  • Experience in outreach, community engagement, or public relations
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Proficient with online meeting and presentation tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Education/Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but will consider recruitment and outreach experience
  • Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive, especially PowerPoint and Google slides
  • Driver’s License (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working with foster/At-Risk Youth (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working with Black, Latino/a, LGBTQIA audiences is a plus
  • Lived experience in the foster care system and or representative member of the community a plus

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience working with foster or at-risk youth
  • Lived experience in foster care or kinship caregiving
  • Experience engaging LGBTQIA+, Latino/a and Black communities
