Assistant Professor - Anthropology

Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research. The Social and Behavioral Sciences Department of the School of Liberal Arts at Medgar Evers College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin immediately subject to administrative and budgetary approval. The department seeks scholars with exceptional records in the research and teaching of anthropological and archeological science who take a big picture approach to studies of human environment interactions, with an emphasis on Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology. We seek individuals who have a theoretical outlook rooted in evolutionary theory as applied to the archeology of sociopolitical complexity. We are especially interested in candidates with ongoing field and lab-based projects. Possible specializations include but are not restricted to geoarchaeology, ceramics, computer and mathematical modeling, EJ Screen, GIS, and spatial analysis. The ideal candidate will also perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS
