Job Overview:

In collaboration with the anesthesiologist/CRNA, the anesthesia technician will function as a member of the team to organize and administer individualized age specific care to patients in the surgical suite and across the perioperative division. The anesthesia technician will coordinate and provide technical support to the providers of anesthesia in the operating room, assist with the educational development of learners within the anesthesia department, assist with patient care, and maintain and ensure availability of supplies and equipment.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Graduated from an accredited program in Anesthesia Technology, or a suitable combination of education and 2 years of experience.
• Maintenance of BLS Healthcare Provider Course completion status required. Successful completion of all orientation and departmental programs, and competencies with documentation required.
• Additional experience/training may be required based on departmental specific needs. Additional certifications may be required

Essential Functions:

• Ensures availability of equipment such as pacemakers, transport monitors, cables, oxygen, and infusion pumps
• Practices principles of aseptic technique when gloving, handling probes, scopes, central lines, and IV s
• Anticipates the anesthesia providers needs when a case deviates from the normal and is able to provide a smooth transition.
• Maintains and cleans anesthesia machines. Prepares and calibrates anesthesia machines prior to start of surgery
• Maintains and cleans equipment including cleaning and disinfection of TEE probes
• Stocks anesthesia carts and orders supplies as indicated
• Assists the anesthesia provider during patient induction and intubation
• Contributes to a satisfying work environment through a positive attitude, cooperative interactions with team members, use of problem solving and critical thinking skills, and collaborative teamwork
• Properly prepares IV solutions/medication
• Assists anesthesia providers with IV/Central line placement
• Communicates pertinent information surrounding optimum patient care to the appropriate patient care provider
• Properly transfers the patient to and from the OR table
• Knows role during an emergency and responds appropriately.
• Assists with patient positioning
• Performs all other duties as assigned
• Transports medications to and from the pharmacy.
