Job Description

The Adult Education Teacher provides basic reading, writing, and math instruction to adult learners. The ideal candidate will create a supportive learning environment and develop personalized teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging lesson plans tailored to adult learners with varying skill levels.
  • Teach basic literacy and numeracy skills, including reading comprehension, writing, and foundational math.
  • Assess students’ learning needs and progress through formal and informal evaluations.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and confidence building.
  • Provide individualized support and guidance to help students achieve their learning goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievements.
  • Collaborate with other educators, administrators, and support staff.
  • Stay updated on best practices and resources in adult education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching or tutoring adult learners.
  • Strong understanding of basic literacy and numeracy concepts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire adult learners.
  • Proficient in using technology and digital tools for instruction.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends is required.
  • Ability to conduct and/or translate training sessions in English and Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both a climate and non-climate-controlled facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
